There are few things I love in this life more than a couple who just radiates love. Spending an early summer’s day documenting Jazmine and Nick’s laidback intimate wedding at Itasca State Park came easy. From their genuine love for one another, their intentional details, and exploring the Mississippi Headwaters, it was a sweet way to kick off wedding season.
On a warm Summer’s day in early June, Jazmine and Nick got ready for their wedding day in a cozy little cabin in Itasca State Park. Outside the cabin, they shared an emotional first look, followed by private vows. It was in this moment I knew I would spend the day tearing up. The love between Jazmine and Nick is such a beautiful thing to witness. It was like they were the only two people in the world; and I was just lucky enough to document their best day ever.
After their private vow exchange, we headed inside the couple’s cabin to enjoy some air conditioning on this steamy day! Luckily for me, this couple appreciates the art of photography (as Nick is an art teacher). So while we cooled off inside, I was able to experiment with some fun lighting techniques. I love getting to be creative, especially when I know a couple is after the same thing. The unique lighting inside the cabin created such a moody vibe that I was obsessed with.

Once we soaked in some AC, we headed to Preacher’s Grove for some portraits before making our way to the ceremony space. Perched next to the beach, the couple’s loved ones gathered in a picnic shelter to witness Jazmine and Nick say, “I do”. Guests gathered on lawn chairs and picnic tables while the couple shared vows and literally tied the knot in a hand-fasting ceremony. As soon as they were officially married, we made our way to the Mississippi Headwaters for newlywed portraits. Because it was the beginning of summer, the area was packed! But, you’d never be able to tell in the photos! Everyone was so respectful, and so happy to see a sweet couple on their wedding day.
The sunlight pouring through the brilliant, lush green trees as we explored the area created some of my favorite photos I’ve taken to this day. When we emerged from the forest, we were spoiled with blue skies overhead as the newlyweds ventured out onto a downed log over the river. We ventured around Itasca State Park, playing with the light as we went.
We then made our way to the couple’s reception space at Douglas Lodge. Nick had crafted all the signage and programs, which made the space even more personable and intimate. The couple’s loved ones conversed, ate s’mores, played yard games and celebrated the newlyweds all evening. Before the sunset, I was able to snag Jazmine and Nick away for a few more portraits in the golden sunshine. The photos speak for themselves, if I do say so myself. It was the perfect way to conclude their dreamy, laidback intimate wedding at Itasca State Park.

Documenting a love as genuine and wholesome as Jazmine and Nick’s came so easily. It was such an honor to celebrate them alongside their dearest love ones.
