Summer Wedding at The Barn at Stoney Hills

It’s not too often that you find a couple whose chemistry is just so effortlessly evident, even on a wedding day. As a Minnesota wedding and lifestyle photographer (and past bride), I know firsthand just how nerve-racking a wedding day can be. But Katie and Nick didn’t let any nerves stop them from having the best day ever. Their summer wedding at The Barn at Stoney Hills in Central Minnesota was full of warm sunshine and endless celebration.

As I sit here writing this, snow blanketing the ground and flurries floating through the air, I’m instantly brought back Katie and Nick’s late May wedding day. The Barn at Stoney Hills is such an effortlessly beautiful venue, which made each detail that Katie selected look even more elevated and elegant. One of my favorite touches of Katie and Nick’s day was the area in which they had their first look. Despite the early afternoon sunshine beating down on our shoulders, Katie and Nick “met” at the top of a little hill – separated by some free standing barn doors. Watching Nick slide open the doors to see his bride was such a beautiful moment to witness.

After Katie and Nick soaked up their first moments together on their day, we headed to the shade for some refuge (and dreamy bridal portraits). As if the first look location wasn’t beautiful enough, we found the sweetest wooden rope swing strung over an old oak tree overlooking the property’s pond. To say I had to keep pinching myself would be an understatement; it’s truly a wedding photographer’s dream wedding venue.

As soon as we wrapped up bridal portraits, we snuck in the bridal party and family photos. It’s no secret, but I love when couples opt for a first look. Because we knocked out all the photos before the ceremony, Katie and Nick were able to focus on their priority: celebrating with their favorite people! Once their ceremony was wrapped up, it was time to party. The bridal party headed back to the bridal suite for some celebratory shots (and pre-gaming, of course) before the dinner and reception began. I loved just how intentional Katie and Nick were about mingling and spending time with their guests. It seriously felt like just one big party!

Before the dancing began, I was able to sneak Katie and Nick away to the pond for some golden hour romantics. It was honestly such a perfect way to wrap up their summer wedding at The Barn at Stoney Hills.

I had always dreamt of photographing a wedding at this Central Minnesota wedding venue. And now, having done so, I just feel so grateful for this job of mine. It’s clients like Katie and Nick that have made all of my dreams come true as a Minnesota wedding and lifestyle photographer. And yes – I can’t wait to work at The Barn at Stoney Hills again!
