As beautiful as a sunny Fall day is in Minnesota, I would relive this rainy day alongside Kaitlin and Jake time and time again. What began as a picturesque Fall day ended with wet hair and the most beautiful lakeside sunset. I couldn’t have written a more perfect day to capture this dreamy Northern Minnesota rainy engagement session.
When Kaitlin and Jake arrived for their engagement session, we were spoiled with the perfect weather. They both wore white sweaters and blue jeans, which popped beautifully against the towering birch trees and emerging Fall foliage. From the moment I started photographing these cuties, I was in love. Not only were they absolute naturals in front of the camera, but they had the most genuine laughter and chemistry. Witnessing a couple in their own little world is one of the greatest joys as a photographer.
After wrapping up taking some photos around my property, Kaitlin and Jake headed inside my studio for an outfit change. I noticed it started to drizzle, but as we walked to our vehicles, the skies opened up. Despite this, we still decided to head to our next location in hopes that the rain would clear or we could dodge it completely. But as we reached the little dock on the lake, the sky just kept getting darker and darker.

We weighed our options of driving around in search of a new location or if we should just wait it out. Thankfully, Kaitlin and Jake were such an easy-going couple and decided that we should just go for it! Thankfully, I had a few clear umbrellas in my car and my lens protector. With umbrellas in tow, we made our way down the dock and created some of my favorite images everrrr. I tried holding my own umbrella, but eventually just gave up balancing it and embraced getting drenched!
Before we knew it, the rain cleared up just enough for Kaitlin and Jake to change back into their dry clothes. As they frolicked on the dock and splashed in the water, slivers of blue sky peeked through the puffy clouds. Before we knew it, golden sunshine and pink hues filled the skies above. It was the perfect way to say “goodbye” to summer and an even better way to conclude Kaitlin and Jake’s Northern Minnesota rainy engagement session.

Until further notice, I’ll be reminiscing on this perfect Fall day as I sit here in curled up with extra blankets in the frigid tundra of Northern Minnesota.
