If you’re a Minnesota native (or just a big fan), you’ll know that we love our lakes around here. So when there’s an opportunity to photograph a wedding overlooking a lake, I’m there. Documenting Faith and Alex’s intimate lakeside resort wedding in Northern Minnesota was an absolute honor; the day was full of intentionality, emotion, and joy. From basking in the warm early afternoon summer sun, to soaking up the most picturesque golden hour, every moment was tailored beautifully for this sweet couple.
Faith and Alex are two of the most authentic, down-to-earth people I’ve photographed. I always pray that a couple plans for a marriage above a wedding, and these lovers did exactly that. Each aspect of their day tugged at my heartstrings as I witnessed each purposeful element – even down to the venue. Faith and Alex tied the knot at Faith’s family’s resort. Wilderness Bay Resort in Park Rapids overlooking Little Mantrap Lake, nestled near Itasca State Park. The ladies spent the morning getting dolled up at Faith’s parents home, tucked away on the resort property. Rather than doing a first look with her groom, Faith opted for a first look with her bridesmaids and father. Excited, bright smiles coupled with happy tears were brushed across everyone’s faces.
After a few touch ups, Faith prepared to walk down the aisle to Alex. As much as I love first looks before the ceremony, the anticipation of a traditional ceremony is such a fun part of a wedding day. Alex’s genuine happiness and excitement as he choked back tears marked the third time I cried during their intimate lakeside resort wedding. Something unique that Faith and Alex opted for was standing on opposite sides at the altar to allow their people to watch their emotions during the ceremony. I love when couples mix it up a bit to tailor a day that is perfect for them.
Once Faith and Alex were officially pronounced husband and wife, we hopped into bridal party portraits. Their wedding color palette of burnt orange and navy was gorgeous! It paired beautifully against the lush green valley and glistening blue water for portraits. But I have to say, my favorite moments of Faith and Alex’s day came after formal portraits were taken.
Honestly, I had a tough time even narrowing it down, so I figured I’d share each of my favorite parts of their day. First, Faith and Alex were able to exchange private vows after their ceremony. While emotions and excitement were still running high, they exchanged heartfelt, soulful vows on the dock over the lake. After popping some champagne, they snuck away to a little cabin for a private dinner while the guests enjoyed cocktail hour. Wedding days fly by so quickly! If you don’t intentionally set alone time aside on your wedding day, you probably won’t get it.
The evening brought the traditional speeches, reception, dinner, and dancing. But one of our favorite moments of the day was having one more opportunity to sneak away for private sunset portraits. We were spoiled with the most amazing golden ambience to wrap up Faith and Alex’s intimate lakeside resort wedding in Northern Minnesota.
Documenting love stories isn’t something I take lightly. It’s such an honor being able to capture moments for my couples to cherish for a lifetime.
